Vacancy Detail

Estimator/Quantity Surveyor

About you

If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Estimator with a background in fit out and refurbishment, this could be a really interesting opportunity if you’re looking for something with a bit more ownership.

The business is building its presence in Scotland and is looking for someone who can play an important part in that growth. You’ll be joining a small team initially, so this is not a role where you’ll be one of many people doing the same thing. You’ll have plenty of visibility and the opportunity to make a real contribution.

The work will be predominantly high end commercial and office fit out, so you’ll need to understand the demands of delivering quality projects in this market.

Your experience

You’ll need solid experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator or in a similar commercial role within fit out and refurbishment.

Experience across commercial interiors, office fit out or high end fit out would be particularly relevant. You’ll understand estimating, procurement, subcontractor packages, cost planning and the commercial management of projects.

You’ll need to be commercially confident, organised and comfortable working with a degree of autonomy. As the Scottish operation is still relatively new, you’ll need to enjoy being part of a small team and be comfortable getting involved across different areas of the business.

It would also be useful if you’ve built relationships within the Scottish fit out and refurbishment market. You don’t need to be a salesperson, although having an established network and the ability to introduce the business to a few potential clients would certainly add value.

What you will be doing with your experience

You’ll work across the commercial and estimating side of the business, supporting the growth and delivery of fit out and refurbishment projects across Scotland.

You’ll be involved in preparing estimates and tenders, reviewing specifications and drawings, pricing work, engaging with subcontractors and suppliers and helping to secure projects that are commercially viable.

Once projects are secured, you’ll also have involvement in the commercial management of the work, helping to monitor costs, manage variations and ensure the financial performance of projects is maintained.

Because the Scottish office is in its early stages, you’ll have more influence than you would in an established regional operation. There is a genuine opportunity to help shape how the team develops as the business grows.

The initial target is around £3 million of work in the first year, which the business believes is very achievable. If you have relationships in the market and can help open a couple of doors, that gives you an opportunity to have an even greater impact.

The salary is £50,000 to £60,000, plus a £6,000 car allowance and an annual bonus.

About the business

You’ll be joining an established construction and fit out business that is now developing its presence in Scotland.

While other parts of the business have a strong focus on industrial work, your role will be primarily focused on high end commercial and office fit out and refurbishment projects.

The Scottish team is currently small, with plans to grow quickly as the workload develops. That makes this a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who wants more than simply managing their own projects. You’ll have the chance to be part of building something and to see the team grow around you.

If you’re an experienced QS or Estimator who knows the fit out market and likes the idea of joining a growing operation where your experience and relationships can genuinely make a difference, it’s worth having a conversation.
